Rina Consulting - CSM S.p.A.

RINA LOGO

Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.p.A. (CSM) is a Rina company estabilished in 1963 as a research centre for the state iron and steel indsutry (IRI/Finsider/Ilva). Since 1998 CSM has been the Industrial Research Centre: the most important private Italian resource in the died of Research and Development of materials.

CSM carries out research and development in close collaboration with Government, European and International supporting institutions, agencies and industries. Moreover, CSM collaborates with many national and international universities. CSM is also involved in technology transfer operations, consisting mainly in the design and development of innovative pilot plants and software prototype, improving the process production, reducing the environmental impact and developing mater. CSM is an important centre in the European research and innovation network. In the specific proposal CSM can assure an effective contribution by combining the deep steel process and product knowledge with many years of experience in modeling using both commercial and proprietary codes devoted to simulation and process control systems.

TUBAF

TBAF LOGO

The Institute of Metal Forming at TU BA Freiberg, Germany, is engaged in practice orientated research work in the field of hot and cold deformation. Focus of its work is mostly on steel (ca. 70%), but also on nonferrous materials and alloys. At the institute the complete process chain from melting and casting, reheating, roughing to finish rolling and cooling in practice related conditions can be realised, incl. direct rolling. Customers are the national and international steel industry the metal processing industry. For its investigations the Institute of Metal Forming owns several hot and cold rolling mills, a Gleeble HDS-V40, Multi-directional Deformation Simulator BÄHR MDS 830, several plastometers and other test facilities. Another technical highlight is the continuous hot rolling pilot mill, which was designed and built specially to investigate and to evaluate heating, rolling, cooling and controlling technologies in the mills of the future. The Sack rolling mill is another universally usable rolling mill which can applied preferred for hot rolling but also for cold rolling. The rolling of strip and rod is possible. It can be used as two-high and four-high rolling mill, respectively. The cold rolling mill has also a two-high and a four-high configuration. The Gleeble HDS-V40 is a testing system for the simulation of technological process chains on laboratory scale and for the determination of deformation parameters and of properties of metallic materials.

ORI – MARTIN

ORI LOGO

Is an Italian privately owned company. The O.R.I company (Officine Riunite Italiane) began its activity in the mechanical field in 1902. In 1933 the Martin company began its activity in the steel and iron industry. After 1946, the two companies merged into O.R.I MARTIN Acciaieria e Ferriera di Brescia operating exclusively in the steelmaking sector producing concrete reinforcing bars. Today ORI-MARTIN Group is composed of 5 companies. The Brescia steelwork is ORI MARTIN’s core plant and the only producing billets. The skill of ORI in supporting research projects with experimental investigations and qualified experience and know how is consolidated by a significant R&D effort over the last decade. Over 2 Mln € and 35K manhours effort in R&D and participation to several RFCS supported projects also with strong innovative content.

Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy (IMZ)

IMZ LOGO

Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy (IMZ) was founded in 1945, is a leading non-profit polish institute working for the steel industry. Its competences include: process metallurgy, casting, rolling and forging technology development and heat treatment. It is equipped with apparatuses for physical simulation of technological processes, numerical modelling and semi-production facilities including casting and hot rolling. The IMZ laboratories are equipped with modern facilities for mechanical testing and material characterisation including high resolution TEM and FEG SEM equipped with EBSD. IMZ activities are strongly related to European steel production sector and are aimed at introducing innovative and environmentally friendly solutions. Over last decade IMZ was involved in development of steels and technologies in the Transportation, Mining Industry, Power Industry and defence. The investigations were conducted in close collaboration with Government Agencies and with European research centres and academia. In Poland, IMZ conducts researches in close cooperation with several universities and with private and public companies. IMZ European activities are mainly aimed at the participation in research program launched by RFCS (Research Fund of Coal and Steel) and carrying out activities within RIES  (Research Initiative European Steel). In the specific proposal IMZ will contribute by combining the technological knowledge connected to the steel production and processing with capability of performing advanced research of physical and numerical modelling combined with advanced material characterisation.
